Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Anthropology in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Anthropology to start in August 2022. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. Please note that we are currently offering two positions. Applicants must apply to each position separately if they wish to be considered for both. We seek candidates with demonstrated research and teaching expertise in the archaeology of complex socio-ecological systems with a focus on the indigenous societies of Northern, Central, or South America. We seek a candidate who can help build a programmatic focus in Environmental Archaeology, broadly construed, by conducting theoretically informed and methodologically rigorous teaching and research addressing themes such as:

? Human mobility

? Landscape archaeology

? Subsistence economies

? Environmental engineering

? Interconnected socio-ecological networks

Methodological foci include but are not limited to:

? Biochemical or geochemical analyses (e.g., stable isotopes)

? Geospatial, digital, and/or modeling approaches

? Palaeoethnobotany, zooarchaeology, palynology, dendrochronology, or similar

? Materials analyses

? Geoarchaeological analyses

We especially invite applications from candidates who are committed to developing convergent research programs with departmental colleagues and with other departments and units in the University of Arkansas system, such as the Arkansas Archeological Survey, the University of Arkansas Stable Isotope Lab, and the Center for Advanced Spatial Technology. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Ph.D. in anthropology (or a closely related field) conferred by the time of appointment
* An active field and/or lab research program focused on indigenous socio-ecological systems anywhere in the Americas with the potential to involve undergraduate and graduate students
* Methodological expertise that complements existing faculty strengths

Preferred Qualifications:

* Strong record of successful publication and funding in the thematic and/or methodological areas described in the job summary
* Ability to develop effective undergraduate and graduate classes that complement the current course catalog
* Existing or planned research and teaching that engages descendant communities and local stakeholders where the research takes place
* Commitment to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment in teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service
