Title of Position: Assistant Professor of Anthropology

St. Mary’s College of Maryland is accepting applications for a tenure track position at the rank  of Assistant Professor of Anthropology to begin in the Fall of 2022. St. Mary’s College of  Maryland’s Department of Anthropology seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in sociocultural  or biocultural anthropology grounded in contemporary cultural anthropological theories and  qualitative ethnographic research to teach three courses per semester, six courses per academic  year. The department considers teaching as an important form of anthropological practice, and  the successful applicant will be expected to teach both introductory (four-field) and upper-level  courses in sociocultural anthropology that contribute to our sociocultural anthropology course  offerings for the major and minor. The position would also share departmental faculty’s  responsibility in regularly teaching methods courses appropriate to their subdiscipline and the  department’s core requirements for the major in addition to elective courses in their area of  expertise. All professors at St. Mary’s are expected to contribute to the college-wide core  curriculum. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: race and/or ethnicity; gender and/or  sexualities; environmental and/or climate justice; medical anthropology and/or global public  health. Geographic region is open; we prefer areas that will contribute to the Atlantic World  focus of the department. Ph.D. required by August 2022 and evidence of teaching excellence is  required. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is  desirable.
