FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Anthropology, Gender Studies, and International Studies in the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York (CCNY), invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Latin American and Latina/o/x Studies to begin in Fall 2022. Dedicated to pursuing an antiracist, intersectional, and anticolonial pedagogy, the Department supports the intellectual, creative, and activist pursuits of our students and our faculty as they develop their regional, thematic, and theoretical interests. The successful candidate's primary teaching responsibilities will be with the Latin American and Latino Studies Program [LALS]. The City College of New York is a Hispanic Serving Institution, and LALS is one of the most far-reaching ethnic studies programs at the College, offering a major, a minor and a broad range of undergraduate classes. We seek candidates who might eventually serve as Director of the LALS program and be attracted to opportunities to participate in program-building and management.

For the first three years, the person hired will work for a semester per annum with the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute (CUNY DSI), which is based at CCNY. CUNY DSI is the first and only university-based research institute devoted to the study of people of Dominican descent in the U.S. and elsewhere. CUNY DSI will offer the opportunity for the candidate to grow and strengthen a personal/expertise- based research agenda during the three-year position.

We are seeking a scholar whose work contributes to intersectional and anticolonial approaches to emergent areas of research in Latin American and Latina/o/x Studies. Those areas may include but are not limited to race and latinidad, immigration and social justice, global public health, environmental justice, critical pedagogies, youth, gender & identities, indigeneity, and community or participatory research. Geographic region of expertise is open as related to Latin American and Latina/o/x Studies and should compliment existing faculty expertise. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and upper-level courses within the LALS Program along with collaborating half-time with the CUNY DSI for the first three years. The position includes contributing to curriculum and program development, and advising and mentoring of undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. The Assistant Professor will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in Latin American Studies, Latina/o/x Studies, Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, or other appropriate social science discipline is required at time of application. The successful candidate will have a commitment to working with a diverse student population. Also required is the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
