Looking for a career with a purpose? Koinonia Family Services in Nevada is seeking a full-time Specialized Foster Care Caseworker for our Reno office.
The caseworker provides case work and behavioral management services to up to 15 foster children (clients). This includes a full range of services including intake, assessment, behavioral management services, crisis intervention, report writing, maintaining case files, and family reunification, emancipation and discharge planning. This position also includes building a strong and meaningful relationship with our foster parents in order to support them as they foster the youth in their care. The caseworker contributes to the recruitment, licensure, relicensure, and training of foster parents; and also coordinates the involvement and participation of placement agency representatives and others regarding assigned clients.
This is a full-time, exempt position (40+ hours per week). A Bachelor's degree is required (see educational requirement section below). The schedule is Monday - Friday, approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some flexibility on the hours required, including some on-call availability. The starting annual salary range is $48,000 to $52,000, but ultimately the salary can be negotiated based on overall qualifications. Additionally, the position includes employee and dependent group health insurance (medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, behavioral health and life insurance). The annual value of the group health insurance package is up to over $35,000 (depending upon family size), which is a non-taxable benefit to the employee.
General Responsibilities:
Provides casework services for up to 15 foster children (clients).
Assists with the intake of clients referred by state and county child welfare representatives into the specialized foster care program.
Assesses the needs and services of clients upon intake into the program.
Develops a comprehensive needs and services plan for each assigned client.
Creates a treatment plan for each foster youth with the consultation of a clinical supervisor.
Provides crisis intervention to clients as needed.
Provides on-going support to foster parents, guiding and encouraging them as they care for foster children and youth in their homes.
Meets with foster parents regularly to discuss a full range of aspects concerning their foster child's development.
Reassesses each client's progress on a quarterly basis, updating the treatment plan and the needs and services plan. Coordinates the involvement and participation of placement agency representatives, biological parents, foster parents, education and court personnel, and, as needed, psychologists and/or medical consultants, when updating the treatment plan and the needs and services plan.
Assists foster families with obtaining needed services for clients through referrals to community resources.
Maintains a case file for each client and foster family.
Regularly writes a variety of reports, including intake reports, incident reports, quarterly reports, termination (discharge) reports, foster home evaluation reports and social home study reports.
Participates in the rotation of on-call responsibilities to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Assists with the on-going training of foster parents.
Assists with the licensure of new foster parents, such as possibly participating in pre-licensure foster parent training.
May be asked to periodically assist with events to recruit foster parents.
Drives own personal vehicle on the job to accomplish job duties.
Educational Requirements:
Master's or Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human development and family studies, anthropology or a related behavioral science field is required. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Licenses & Certifications:
LCSW, MSW, MFT and CPC Interns encouraged to apply.
Driver's license required.
Experience Required:
2+ years of experience working with children and families in a public or private social services setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of case work practices and behavioral management techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to quickly establish a rapport with clients, foster parents, co-workers and county workers.
Ability to practice successfully with clients from differing social, cultural, racial and religious backgrounds.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Intermediate level knowledge of MS Word.
Knowledge of computers, e-mail and Internet.
Strong report writing abilities.
Strong organization and time management skills.
Strong multi-tasking abilities.
Knowledge of Nevada regulations a plus.
Ability to work under pressure and achieve deadlines.
High level of integrity and a strong commitment to excellence.
