The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the University of South Dakota invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cultural Anthropology, to begin in August 2022.
The position would carry a 3/3 load that includes an introductory course in cultural anthropology, upper-level courses appropriate to the candidate's academic strengths, and shared responsibility for a course in socio-cultural theory. A successful candidate will offer courses that contribute to interdisciplinary programs that may include International Studies, Religious Studies, Sustainability, University Honors, Linguistics, Museum Studies, Native Studies, and/or Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies. Other duties will include advising and mentoring students and service to the campus and discipline.
An active research agenda, including publications in the field, is expected. A successful candidate should engage in ethnographic fieldwork, should have a commitment to involving undergraduates in their research, and should be committed to pursuing external funding opportunities from both governmental and private sources. Geographic and topical specializations are open.
Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in anthropology by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with interdisciplinary teaching experience and demonstrated success in research.
