Job Description

Character is seeking an Associate Strategy Director who appreciates great storytelling as much as the research behind the narrative. We love smart, curious people with eclectic backgrounds who appreciate good design. This role is right for you if you're excited by the prospect of building and defining brands from the ground up. They will bring a fresh perspective and an ability to uncover truths and find insights that authentically ground a brand. You should love exploring cultures, categories and people across industries and contexts.

Past and current clients include: Netflix, Apple, Rothy's, Third Love, DoorDash, Mixt (salad co), Molekule, Instagram, Tonal, Oura (sleep/health ring), MUTHA (maternity skincare), Nutribullet, Conjure (furniture rental, just launched) and Legacy (male fertility solutions.)

You Will


Working with our team of designers and writers, you will marshal bold and transformative strategic programs, including brand positioning, category definition, naming, and workshop facilitation. You will take complex and sometimes disparate information and thread together simple, impactful and emotive brand stories.

You will support a myriad of different and new clients for Character externally. Internally, you will lead the strategy portion of 50% of our NY-based brand programs and help mentor and work with our creative strategist while taking on some department level responsibilities. You will report to the Head of Strategy + Copy.

You Have
  • 6+ years of experience in Brand Strategy, Creative Strategy or Design Strategy at a creative or branding agency, with a background in nomenclature and brand architecture
  • Experience presenting and leading teams and clients through an argument or point-of-view
  • The ability to construct narratives and edit other strategist's work to provide clarity
  • Heart for developing the talents of others through mentorship
  • Comfortability working with a team from product creation through to production
  • Experience conducting/managing research
Nice To Have
  • A background in cultural research / anthropology
  • Experience in tech, DTC, and fashion brand positioning and brand strategy
