This position functions as MDOT's Archeologist Specialist responsible for all aspects of the MDOT Archaeology Program, department-wide. This one-of-a-kind position 1) develops, implements, and oversees the application of procedures, practices, and policies for the MDOT Archaeology Program; 2) manages the MDOT Archaeology Program, which includes providing environmental classification for MDOT construction projects and directing archaeological investigations 3) directs MDOT's project-specific consultation with Indian Tribes regarding present and future projects and; 4) researches and develops predictive models for use by the MDOT Archaeology Program staff. This person works independently without close supervision.

Required Education and ExperienceEducation
Possession of a bachelor's degree in archaeology or a field of anthropology.

Selective Position Requirement: In accordance with qualifications specified at 36 CFR 61 in the Federal Register and Programmatic Agreement, a minimum of a master's degree in archaeology or a field of anthropology is required to perform preservation work related to trunklin highway projects.

Experience
Four years of professional experience equivalent to an Archaeologist, including two years equivalent to an Archaeologist P11 or one year equivalent to an Archaeologist 12.

Additional Requirements and InformationNOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
