The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Spelman College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cultural Anthropology to begin in August 2022. We are seeking a cultural anthropologist who specializes in Food Studies. We are seeking a candidate whose scholarship and teaching reflects an intersectional methodological and theoretical lens. A geographical specialization in the United States is preferred. Sub-areas of specialization that are of interest may include (but are not limited to): medical anthropology, global public health, consumption, sustainability, nutrition, food security, food access, food systems, and food policy. Spelman College is a teaching-intensive institution with a teaching load of three courses per semester. We are seeking a colleague who can teach core courses in Anthropology such as Ethnographic Methods and Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, as well as Food and Culture, Food and the City, Medical Anthropology, and other anthropology elective courses in their area of specialization that contribute to our department’s course offerings. The candidate will also be expected to serve as a reader on students’ Senior Theses, which is a capstone requirement for all majors.
