The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) at the University of Rhode Island seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2022 with expertise in BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Queer and Sexuality Studies.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality with a focus on the experiences of BIPOC queer individuals and communities. We seek a scholar whose teaching and research are located in the interdisciplinary field of Queer Studies with expertise in at least one of these areas: local, national, transnational and/or global queer studies; race, sexuality, and queer theories, queer Black/Latinx/Indigenous and/or ethnic studies, transgender studies, queer politics and human rights, postcolonial and decolonial queer studies, and anti/decolonial pedagogies and research methodologies.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will contribute to the GWS undergraduate and graduate programs and the development of the Queer Studies minor. In growing the minor, we seek a candidate who will teach the gateway course Queer Studies, have the option to teach courses such as Transgender Lives and Cultures, Queer Politics and Social Change, Latinx Masculinities, Black Feminisms and/or Black Masculinities, and design and teach courses in their areas of expertise. They will advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. In accordance with the candidate’s strengths, there will be opportunities to collaborate with the Department of Africana Studies, Sociology and Anthropology, Political Science and/or other departments and programs in Arts and Sciences and across the University. They will also have opportunities to offer GWS courses in the Honors Program. URI values the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
