The Deputy Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (DTHPO) will assist the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) with the Nay'dini'aa Na' Kayax Eł Ugheldze' Łoosyaał Łuts'tudaełde' (Chickaloon Village Walks Well with Others) Project including: grant management and reporting, organizing sensitive data, and completing tasks of the objective work plans; coordinating and documenting meetings and conferences; participating in fieldwork; collaborating with other staff, project partners, government agencies, and the general public; and drafting memorandums of agreements and other external correspondence. This position is primarily responsible for internal communications with interdepartmental staff, the Language and Culture Department, and the CVTC Culture Committee; and updating project information for the CVTC newsletter, social media sites, and website. This position will support the Cultural Interpretive Guides and Elders working on this project. This position will be responsible for completing the certification requirements to become a CVTC Certified Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and participate in numerous trainings and workshops of relevance. This is a 30 hrs. a week benefitted position.

Required Skills

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

Three years of relevant work experience (including experience with working for a Tribe) is preferred including:

● Knowledge of Chickaloon Native Village and Ahtna culture and history.

● Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding cultural resources and information.

● Ability to interpret information and perform public speaking engagements.

● Ability to meet deadlines.

● Ability to plan and host community meetings.

● Proficient written and spoken English with writing experience and good knowledge of editing conventions and notations.

● Working knowledge of common office equipment, Microsoft365 and general computer literacy.

● Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as a team member and to work effectively across units and departments.

● Willingness and ability to participate in multiple days of fieldwork and temporarily live in a remote camping situation which includes hiking and/or ORV use. Bachelor's degree in anthropology or archaeology preferred (social science, environmental science, or biological sciences are adequate) but not mandatory. Experience may be substituted.
