Job Description

Binghamton University, State University of New York (SUNY), Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. at time of appointment and should have demonstrated teaching experience, an active research program, and publications. The selected candidate will actively contribute to the University’s mission of advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, mentoring, and service, as well as through engagement with faculty, students, and staff.

Position Requirements

We seek to hire a quantitative anthropologist whose research includes the use of sophisticated and emerging methods of statistical analysis and/or quantitative modeling to contribute to and expand our curriculum, particularly around research methods. Global geographical and topical areas of focus are open; priority will be given to applicants conducting research that complements our department’s existing strengths in human health and well-being. We are particularly interested in applicants who address major questions in biological anthropology and human evolutionary biology, including but not limited to biodemography, nutrition & energetics, disease transmission, and causes and consequences of inequality and health disparities. We prefer candidates who demonstrate awareness that quantitative data analysis is not immune to bias, and who incorporate discussion of bias into their pedagogy, mentorship, and research. The successful applicant will offer at least two graduate courses in quantitative methods, including an existing course in multivariate statistics, and a new course in their area of specialty, and will offer an undergraduate statistics course. Applicants are encouraged to review the graduate and undergraduate programs and other faculty interests at http://www.binghamton.edu/anthropology/.
