Job Details

Boise State University invites you to apply for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Prehistoric Archaeology within the Department of Anthropology.

We seek candidates using innovative approaches to answer questions in the field. We are particularly interested in a faculty member who will help diversify strengths in areas including archaeological science, paleoecology, bioarchaeology, and human behavioral ecology. Candidates should have a strong interest in collaborative research, inclusive mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally-funded research program, mentor undergraduates, supervise graduate students in the Anthropology masters’ program and Ecology, Evolution and Behavior (EEB) PhD program, and teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in our curriculum. The successful candidate will help build a diverse and inclusive environment in our dynamic and growing department, graduate programs, and university.

The successful archaeology candidate will also have the opportunity to affiliate with the Center for Applied Archaeological Sciences (CAAS, https://www.boisestate.edu/anthropology-caas/) within the Department. CAAS supports the Anthropology MAA, cultural resources management emphasis, operates the summer archaeology field school focused on prehistoric archaeology in the region, secures extramural research and contracts to facilitate local and regional scale research, and collaborates with state and federal agency partners. CAAS manages a suite of funding opportunities, equipment, and a fleet of field research vehicles for faculty members and their students engaged in archaeological research.

We are looking for colleagues with complementary research interests who will develop and maintain a vibrant research program by partnering and collaborating with faculty and students in our department and across campus, expanding partnerships with non-academic organizations, and by leveraging university investments in research infrastructure. Please visit this website to learn about our department, programs, people, and research infrastructure: https://www.boisestate.edu/anthropology/

Please be certain to attach a single pdf file that includes the following in order:
- a cover letter that describes the candidate’s interest in the position and potential contributions to our department
- a curriculum vitae, which includes employment history, experience with grant writing, publications, courses taught, leadership roles and responsibilities, mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students, and professional activities including service
- a 2-3 page statement of research interests and research plans for the next 5 years including potential funding sources, dissemination, student involvement, and development of a lab. Please also outline how the research will build our regional archaeology capacity and how research may integrate with existing departmental programs or research strengths
- a 1-2 page teaching statement that describes the candidate’s teaching philosophy, experience, pedagogical training, and potential contributions to our graduate and undergraduate curriculum, and how you will implement modern pedagogical practices
- a 1-page description of how the candidate’s research program and teaching philosophy would address Boise State University's diversity and inclusion goals (https://www.boisestate.edu/president/statement-of-diversity-and-inclusivity/),
- copies of no more than three relevant publications, and
- contact information for three professional references.
