Job Details

The Department of Anthropology at Washington University is hiring a scholar at the Assistant Professor level as part of the Race and Ethnicity Cluster Hire Initiative.  The department is seeking a scholar who is conducting innovative research on economic, legal, societal, or race-related drivers behind environmental injustice, and on lived experiences and social responses within affected areas. Ongoing research in the US or willingness to initiate research in the US is preferred but not required. The scholar's work should speak to dynamics of environmental racism in urban US and complement research within the cluster on the biology and landscape architecture in urban environments. Their work should have practical application but also maintain the comparative perspective central to the discipline of anthropology.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in anthropology or a closely allied field, ethnographic experience, and a dedication to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education.  Diversity and inclusion are core values at Washington University, and the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to create inclusive classrooms and environments in which a diverse array of students can learn and thrive.  Successful candidates will develop an externally funded and internationally recognized research program and contribute significantly to both undergraduate and graduate curricula through teaching and mentoring students and to participate fully in Departmental, College, and University activities.

Deadline for applications is November 15, 2021.  Please clearly indicate which academic unit you are applying to, provide a cover letter, curriculum vita, research and teaching statements, diversity statement, three examples of scholarship, and names and contact information of three references to be submitted through Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/92350.
