The faculty of the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina (UofSC), in Columbia, seek a biological anthropologist for a tenure-track assistant professorship beginning August 16, 2022. Geographic area of research is open. Candidates who study health and disease in living human populations and whose research and teaching complements that of existing faculty in the department are especially encouraged to apply. We are looking for scholars who focus on the biological mechanisms underlying: 1) the developmental origins of health and disease, and/or 2) health disparities in and across living populations. Applicants must have and maintain an active program of research and demonstrate success in securing extramural funding. Candidates will be expected to teach large introductory undergraduate courses, as well as courses in their area of specialization. A typical teaching load in our department is two courses per semester. We are particularly interested in scholars who will complement departmental strengths in medical anthropology and the bioarchaeology of human health and health disparities, expand department offerings relevant to the Department’s new Minor in Medical Anthropology, as well as build on university-wide strengths in global health and the College’s Minor in Medical Humanities. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology by the time of appointment.
