The Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety & Quality is seeking a Qualitative Researcher for the Center for Health Care Human Factors within the Institute. The Center for Health Care Human Factors brings together experts in human factors and organizational psychology with an interdisciplinary group of researchers, practitioners and educators who want to design health care systems and technologies that work for people, rather than set them up for mistakes and inefficiencies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct reviews of the medical, social scientific and health policy, and infection prevention literature.
- Manage human subjects/IRB submission and documentation.
- Recruit and consent research study participants.
- Conduct in-depth interviews and focus groups with study participants (virtual and in-person).
- Oversee qualitative data collection at multiple sites.
- Participate in the development of materials for efficient qualitative data collection.
- Perform computer-assisted qualitative data analysis using NVivo 11/12 and other software platforms.
- Actively participate in research meetings.
- Assist in the preparation of grants, presentations and manuscripts.
- Complete administrative tasks to support the studies, including scheduling and file management.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Requires a minimum of Bachelor's degree (preferably in Anthropology, Sociology, Organizational Psychology, Industrial Engineering); Master's Degree in Social Sciences or social science discipline preferred or related field preferred.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience - 1 to 3 years of which is direct qualitative data collection experience; including specific familiarity with in-depth interviewing and conducting focus groups.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience using qualitative data analysis software; Knowledge of NVivo 12 preferred.
- Strong communication, writing and organizational skills.
- Excellent understanding of best practices in the ethical conduct of qualitative research.
- Ability to work accurately, paying strict attention to detail, and willingness to doing varied work that requires an intellectual and professional approach.
- Ability and willingness to occasionally work outside normal business hours and on weekends, depending on the needs of the project.
- Ability and willingness to travel to participating hospitals to gather data in site visits.
JHU Equivalency Formula :?30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.??Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
