Job Details
The Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in archaeology. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment beginning August 1, 2022. We seek a scholar with an active research program in zooarchaeology focusing on prehistoric hunter-gatherer societies. The successful candidate will conduct research in zooarchaeology, mentor PhD and undergraduate students, teach a 2-2 course load including undergraduate and graduate courses in zooarchaeology and anthropology, manage the department’s extensive zooarchaeological collection, and participate in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Qualifications
Required qualifications: PhD in-hand; a PhD conferred before December 31, 2021 is desired, however, strong applicants who are scheduled to have the PhD in hand by June 1, 2022 will also be considered. Candidates should also have demonstrated experience in zooarchaeological analysis at the doctoral or post-doctoral level, a focus on prehistoric hunter-gatherer societies, and the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in zooarchaeology and anthropology.
Preferred qualifications: An active field/lab-based research program in North, Central, or South America; peer-reviewed research publications; success in obtaining competitive grants for research; ability to interact with the department’s Center for the Study of the First Americans; capacity to contribute to one or more of the department’s bridging themes; and, prior teaching experience.
