The College of Arts & Media, Dean's Office is currently seeking applications for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Gallery Coordinator (Academic Services Professional-Intermediate).
In recognition of the need for action to combat persisting inequities within higher education and tap into the power of transdisciplinary research and collaboration as the means for addressing the grand challenges that face the creative industries in the 21st century, the College of Arts & Media is implementing a national hiring strategy to attract diverse applicants. As the first college in Colorado devoted exclusively to arts and entertainment, the College of Arts & Media understands the influence of modern trends on traditional art forms. We combine the latest technology with traditional methods, and we encourage our students to incorporate their discoveries of art's emerging dimensions with our comprehensive instruction on its classical forms. The college enrolls 1,300 majors, has 120 faculty and 25 professional support staff. Within the three distinct departments, Music & Entertainment Industries Studies (MEIS), Film & Television and Visual Arts. The MEIS Department primarily focuses on commercial music styles. Students are given the option to choose from four distinct emphasis areas of study: Performance, Singer/ Songwriter, Music Business, and Recording Arts. The Department of Film & Television offers students the opportunity to become knowledgeable about working in both Film & Television while delving into their special areas of interest. Degree emphasis areas in Visual Arts include Art History, Digital Animation, Digital Design, Art Practices, Illustration, and Photography. The College of Arts & Media operates two gallery spaces (the Emmanuel Gallery on the Auraria Campus, and the Next Stage Gallery in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts), that serve all faculty and students across the disciplines offered by CAM.

Job family description:
Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support for the teaching and/or educational service mission of the university. Functions include academic advising/counseling, student personnel administration, recruitment and admissions, registration, financial aid, faculty affairs, library services, curriculum administration, and others involving direct support of the educational mission of an academic unit.
Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.
At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.
Position Emphasis/Nature of Work:
The Gallery Coordinator assists the Gallery Director in operating the Emmanuel and Next Stage Galleries. The position will be responsible for all aspects of gallery operation expenses and purchasing including vendor payment, supplies and gallery art; facilitating artist and contractor agreements; supervising and helping recruit student workers and interns; supporting and taking an active role in special events and outreach; assisting with and content development for educational programming to retain and attract new audience members; and working with university, K-12, and community partners.
Under the supervision of the Gallery Director, the Coordinator will assist in installing artwork, deinstalling exhibitions, handling artwork, packing art properly, tracking loans, and physically maintaining the gallery. This position will work closely with CAM staff to support marketing, social media, and website management. The Gallery Coordinator ensures the galleries and artworks are monitored during operating hours and special events ensuring the safety of all artwork and guests. There will be opportunities to assist the Director on curatorial projects, including research, label writing, catalog design and production, and grant writing.
Examples of Work Performed:
Operations:
- Recruit, supervise, and mentor student employees, interns, and gallery volunteers; to include creating work schedules, ensuring gallery coverage during open hours and installation, providing timely feedback, executing disciplinary actions, and approving time sheets.
- Reach out to community members or artists to engage in partnership or assist with procuring art for a show.
- Assist the Gallery Director with budget management. This position will track and maintain the budget and reconcile the purchases they are making for the gallery with the budget allowance to ensure operations don't exceed the overall allowance.
- Responsible for all aspects of the purchasing and reconciliation processes for the gallery.
- Process work orders for gallery maintenance; maintain general cleanliness and repair of galleries such as wall repair, painting.
- Facilitate artist and contractor contracts, including obtain bids for artist and contractor services such as catalogs, art installations, etc.; drafting preliminary negotiations of the terms for the contracts.
- Coordinates scheduling and use of gallery facilities.
- Maintains gallery contact lists.
- Act as the first point of contact for visitors entering the gallery.
- Educate gallery staff regarding risk management and University policies and/or protocols, to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
Exhibits & Events:
- Assist Gallery Director in executing the exhibition schedule.
- Assist with gallery programming; work with faculty and students to increase attendance gallery showings and attendance.
- Responsible for staffing needs for gallery events.
- Responsible for managing gallery event logistics and planning; including making decisions regarding venue and vendor use as well as set up and tear down of special onsite and offsite events.
- Contracts with and oversees various outside vendors for gallery events, such as catering, audio/visual, rental needs, entertainment, etc.
- Coordinate donors' activities and special guests; support fundraising, donor outreach, marketing & communications with donors.
- Regular updating, maintenance, and improvements of gallery websites and social media accounts.
- Assist with design labels, exhibition layout, catalogs, posters, flyers, etc.
- Answer any questions pertaining to exhibitions and history of building via phone, email, or in-person.
- Partners with CAM Marketing & Communications for gallery marketing materials and press.
- Monitor artwork and visitor interaction during operating hours and events.
- Help installation/de-installation of exhibitions.
- Other administrative duties and projects for the Gallery and College, as requested and assigned.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $50,000 to $55,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Art History or Art, or a related field (visual studies, history, philosophy, anthropology). Substitution : A combination of years and college level education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the 4-year degree. Experience used to satisfy the degree substitution cannot also be used to satisfy the below 2 years of professional level experience requirement.
- Two (2) years of professional administrative, operational, or financial support in a professional organization.
- Experience installing/de-installing gallery art.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Conditions of Employment: Must be willing and able to:
- successfully pass a national criminal and sex offender background check
- lift art pieces that vary in size and weight (up to 50lbs)
- work at least one evening per week
- work weekends and nights, as needed
- maintain a regular on-campus presence within our galleries
- be flexible and agile with schedule and able to pivot from remote to on-site, last minute
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing customer service in an office and/or gallery setting
- Experience working with community partners and the public
- Experience providing supervision and mentorship to student employees
- Experience coordinating gallery events, including programming.
