Hart Museum House Manager, William S. Hart Museum The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 107 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a House Manager for our William S. Hart Museum, located in Santa Clarita (Newhall), California. The House Manager works closely with the Chief Deputy Director at the Natural History Museum. The Hart Museum is the former house of silent film star William S. Hart, who donated the property to Los Angeles County for the purpose of turning it into a museum. The House Manager will join the Hart as the museum is developing a new framework for viewing the work, life, and attitudes of an early 20th-century movie icon through a modern multicultural, community-focused lens, and will be a key part of the team implementing this transformation through interpretation, exhibitions, and programming. The ideal candidate for this role will bring a combination of museum, operational, project management, and supervisory experience, enthusiasm for history, and a vision for museums as a vibrant and vital part of their communities. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: * The Manager will have primary responsibility for the daily operation of the Hart Museum, and will work in collaboration with the NHMLAC exhibitions, interpretation, programming, collections, and operations teams based at the Natural History Museum. * Liaison between the William S. Hart Museum and the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC), County of Los Angeles, Friends of Hart Park, Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation and surrounding communities of Newhall and Santa Clarita. * Responsible for all phases of the museum's operations, including but limited to, facility management, monitoring budgets, supervising staff, collections care and identifying direction building maintenance and preservation needs. Additional support for exhibitions, programming and volunteer programs in collaboration with lead departments. This position has the following requirements: * Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, anthropology or history preferred. * 1+ years experience managing a physical space or property and three years of experience with progressively greater responsibility and successful outcomes for a comparable program or function. * 1+ years in a historic house or similar museum and experience handling or conserving objects in a museum collection or exhibition environment. * Ability to work a variable schedule, including weekends and evenings when needed. * Understands basic planning processes and their relationship to setting specific work assignments for direct reports. * Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically, and effectively with Boards, volunteers, and in the community relations and outreach capabilities. * Ability to manage a function or program and its coordination with other departmental and divisional work. * Analyze data related to a specific program or function. * Has the skills necessary to be a successful lead including compliance with human resources policies and procedures, training staff, providing regular feedback to direct reports, establishing and supporting attainment of goals for direct reports. Salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 with experience plus excellent benefits. This is a full time regular, exempt position.
