Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand a temporary's skill set to enhance their qualifications for State government and private sector jobs. Exposure to an agency's culture, process, procedures and potential learning opportunities can provide valuable experience to those who may ultimately seek permanent employment with the state.
This posting will be used to fill five temporary positions (7309, 7310, 7337, 7338, 7339) located in Raleigh - Wake County. There are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Visitwww.nctemporarysolutions.comfor employment information.
Job Order Hourly rate of pay: $21.00 (Based on education and/or years of related work experience indicated on application)
These temporary positions will be assigned to the Department of Health & Human Services -PH-Epidemiology-State Lab & OCME. Responsibilities are (1) conducting an investigation, examination and report of sudden, unexpected, unnatural or violent deaths that fall under Medical Examiner jurisdiction; (2) determining the jurisdiction of the OCME over such cases; (3) completing work related to death investigations as required. ME Specialist duties include, but are not limited to, receiving calls from medical examiners, hospitals, law enforcement, and other agencies reporting deaths. External examinations of decedents including photographing the body; collecting toxicology samples; physically moving the decedent; and removing and inventorying the decedent's personal belongings. Collecting and releasing physical evidence to law enforcement personnel. Preparing and submitting detailed written factual investigation reports. Lifting medium to heavy weights, and/or hiking long distances in outdoor settings and rural environments.
The office requires Sunday - Saturday 24/7 coverage and these shifts will mostly be covering nights, including weekends. This position may be required to work holidays.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science (biology, chemistry, physiology, criminal justice, anthropology, forensic sciences, biochemistry, etc.) or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of medicolegal death investigation experience; or an equivalent combination of education.

- Knowledge of medical terminology and data entry
- Ability to use current office technologies
- Ability to effectively communicate with different agencies and families in stressful situations
