Hours per week range from 8 to 28 (flexible ) and more than one position may be hired. Work is remote (virtual) and can be accomplished from any location in the U.S.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in anthropology, history, or related field of study

Architectural Historians must meet the OPM qualification standards for the 0170 series https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-s chedule-qualification-standards/0100/history-series-0170/ and/or the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Architectural History (Appendix A of 36 CFR 61). Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel Heritage Web/Mobile database Duties:

Performs or oversees architectural history fieldwork and other historic preservation activities, which may include but are not limited to identifying, evaluating, interpreting, managing, and/or prescribing treatments for historic buildings, structures, landscapes, and various other cultural resources located throughout the agency. The work may also include working with the Heritage Web/Mobile database.

Serves as the principal investigator in the identification, evaluation, and management of historic properties. Carries out projects which will include, but are not limited to, developing historic context studies, assisting in historic preservation policy development, advising on leases authorized under Section 111 of the National Historic Preservation Act, historic preservation program management, historic property evaluations (Determinations of Eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places), National Register of Historic Places nominations, historic property management plans, historic property rehabilitation, restoration and adaptive re-use plans, interpretation, and consultation with other Forest Service program areas, state and tribal historic preservation offices, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and other federal, state, and local agencies, and the public. 50% Is responsible for or makes significant contributions to the preparation of historic preservation documentation, compliance, and background materials for clearances, permits, licenses, leases, etc., as required by Sections 106, 110, and 111 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and cultural resources management guidelines for all Forest Service activities. Recommends, plans for, and executes historical investigations required to meet NHPA and Forest Service guidelines. 20% Negotiates cooperative and interagency agreements and other cooperative instruments needed to effectively carry out resource stewardship goals. Identifies projects, manages project budgets, completes work within appropriate timetables, independently organizes and performs project components including in-depth research and the subsequent preparation of reports, maps, inventories, and records. Develops contract specifications for project work. 20% Using self-motivation, creativity, interpersonal skills, and organization, initiates outreach in heritage management planning, markets offerings and services to potential Forest Service clients, and establishes work order agreements. In establishing relationships with clients, provides technical assistance, consultation, and guidance on heritage issues and projects as well as management of cultural resources and heritage programs. 10%
