ACE CRDIP: Library & Archives Assistant- Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, is seeking ONE Library and Archives Assistant to contribute to maintaining the park library and working in the museum collection alongside park staff in Skagway, Alaska. The Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) is a professional development internship that introduces undergraduate and graduate students, from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the National Parks, to career opportunities within Cultural Resource Management in the NPS. Applicants must be 18-30 (up to 35 for Veterans) and either A) in pursuit of a higher education degree or B) still be within two years of graduation from a degree program.

Living Allowance: ACE Member is expected to contribute ~30 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $564/week to help offset the costs of housing, food, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Position Description:

The ACE member's duties will include:

• Maintaining the park library, where many of the important historical documents critical for historical research, reside. This involves accessioning and filing or re-filing historical documents such as photographs, diaries, books, articles, and other items in their appropriate places in the park library. It also involves maintaining and updating electronic databases for the library books and historic photographs.
• Conducting background historical research on gold rush era Stampeders and historic buildings dating to the same period for the park and members of the public. This involves gathering historical information from photographs, government records, maps, local newspapers, diaries, letters, business records and other documents (including online resources) and placing this information into easily understood narratives.
• Scanning historic photographs, maps and other documents (assembling segments, restoring image quality and legibility as required) for permanent accessioning into the park's growing electronic files.
• Assisting Park Curator in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
• This position is funded through the Public Land Corps Act which has specific program requirements
  • Must be 18-30 years of age to apply

• US Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred:

• Hold or be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as history or anthropology
