Kenai Peninsula College/University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Quantitative Studies position at its Kenai River Campus beginning in August 2022 (with the possibility of a January 2022 start date). This faculty position supports the University of Alaska's bipartite mission of performing teaching and public service. The successful candidate will teach developmental and 100 and 200 level math courses with the potential opportunity to teach 200 level statistic courses. Courses will be taught in support of programs at KPC, including face-to-face and distance delivery courses. The instructor will teach a 5-part workload with four parts teaching and one part university/community service. The instructor will advise students in course selection and degree requirements. Salary will be based on education and experience.

SUMMARY: Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) is a campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The college has three locations and is comprised of:

-Kenai River Campus, Soldotna
-Kachemak Bay Campus, Homer
-Resurrection Bay Extension Site, Seward

This position will be located at the Kenai River Campus situated on 309 acres along the banks of the beautiful Kenai River, the ancestral homelands of the Dena'ina Athabascan, Ahtna Athabascan, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq and Eyak peoples. The area is known for its wildlife splendor, mountain viewscapes, world-class fishing and hunting, hiking, canoe trails and winter outdoor adventure. And yet, Anchorage, Alaska's largest city is just a 2.5-hour drive or 20-minute flight away.

KPC offers two-year Associates of Arts and Associates of Applied Science degrees, as well as courses leading to occupational certifications and UAA baccalaureate degrees, such as Psychology, Art and Anthropology.

Finalists for this position will be asked to give a 15-minute zoom presentation showcasing a quantitative studies portfolio and a 15-minute zoom teaching presentation pertaining to a 100/200 quantitative studies related topic typically delivered in a classroom.


Teaching day or evening courses, including face-to-face and distance delivery, in developmental math courses and 100/200 level math courses. Advising students in math and math-related subjects, and AA/AAS students; Providing community service related to the math department and university/college service; Holding weekly office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills in an environment involving a variety of cultures and age levels.
Ability and skills to teach developmental math courses and 100 / 200 level courses in math in face-to-face, hybrid delivery, and distance delivery formats.
Ability to advise students in math and related subjects.
Demonstrated abilities to be engaged in active community service activities.
Demonstrated commitment to taking on the diverse tasks associated with being a productive member of a small faculty, such as committee memberships and community service.


Documented successful experience teaching face-to-face math at the developmental and 100 & 200 level.
Established proficiency with distance delivery.
Documented successful college level teaching and service.
Demonstrated experience utilizing instructional technologies in teaching strategies.
Demonstrating successful teaching and service in an appropriate institution of higher education.

Three or more years' experience teaching math at the developmental and 100/200 levels and experience teaching statistics at the 200 level.
Experience in academic advising to traditional and non-traditional students.
Experience working with community and other constituencies.
Demonstrated involvement with professional and/or academic organizations.
Demonstrated success working with a diverse population.
Experience with culturally responsive teaching/multicultural education.
Experience teaching and developing distance delivered mathematics courses.
Experience with current teaching technologies such as creating and implementing Blackboard or other LMS, audio and video components, interactive learning objects, lecture capture, Smartboards.


Master's Degree in Mathematics or closely related field that includes at least 18 credits of graduate-level mathematics.

Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment. Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service and recognized by UAA.
