Become a Part of the NIKE, Inc. Team

NIKE, Inc. does more than outfit the world's best athletes. It is a place to explore potential, obliterate boundaries and push out the edges of what can be. The company looks for people who can grow, think, dream and create. Its culture thrives by embracing diversity and rewarding imagination. The brand seeks achievers, leaders and visionaries. At NIKE, Inc. it's about each person bringing skills and passion to a challenging and constantly evolving game.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a Cultural & Societal Trends Director. You are a futurist and change forecaster, with a breadth of vision! You are adept at sensing global opportunities at the intersection of society, culture, lifestyles, sport, and innovation, and uncovering not only what consumers value now, but more importantly, what they will desire next. The right fit for this role will thrive as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, highly complex offense and organization. A true creative catalyst who has proven ability combining both cultural intelligence and consumer insight to develop forward-thinking strategic foresights that both inform and inspire.

What you will work on

You are a key lead in Nike's Cultural & Societal Trends team, uncovering future trends and societal shifts. You will help set the strategy, near-term and long-term, and prioritize feature work between broad ongoing seasonal direction that drives Nike's Brand Narrative and Creative Direction and more specific, future-focused projects that uncover new opportunities for different teams across the Nike Enterprise, from Design, Product and Marketing to Brand and Innovation. You will define the future consumer through interdisciplinary and collaborative research and turn foresight into meaningful ideas. Your process should be rooted in Futurist, Trend Forecasting, and Consumer Insight practices and thinking. You are an expert networker, connected to other visionaries and tastemakers around the world and easily able to identify early adopter consumers whose actions and behaviors today provide a key indication of where the world is heading. You are an exceptional storyteller, with an ability to unpack complex ideas about cultural change, new consumer behaviors and aesthetic shifts through multimedia presentations and workshops. You will work at the leading edge of Nike's Consumer Insights function, thinking ahead from 3 to 15 years and kicking off the seasonal work that drives all of Nike's Consumer Creation teams.

Who you will work with

You will be a Cultural & Societal Trends lead within Nike's Consumer & Market Research sub-function at Nike's WHQ Headquarters in Oregon. You will report directly to the Sr. Director, Cultural & Societal Trends, and you will be a key member of Nike Insights' most forward-thinking team. You will be a future trends specialist, focused on deciphering creative, cultural and lifestyle shifts and accountable for youth culture specific insights and concepts, across genders and sport dimensions. You will not only intersect with multiple groups across the Consumer Insights function, including Consumer Research and the Men's, Women's and Kids Consumer Insights Synthesis teams, but you will also be an architect of strategic foresight for Nike's Creative teams across the enterprise, presenting and workshopping emerging trends, in order to encourage new and out of the box thinking.

What you will bring

* Bachelor's degree in Design, Design Strategy, Journalism, Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Psychology, Marketing, Market Research, Research Methods, or related field.

* 7-10+ years of experience, plus relevant work experience in a design or product environment, working with trends and consumer insights.

* Deep understanding of trend and insights research and methodologies.

* Global experiences from the areas of fashion & design, technology, and culture and a willingness to travel.

* Pan-disciplinary with a broad frame of reference.

* Ever curious - fascinated with diverse cultures, societal shifts, and human behaviors.

* Skilled at combining academic research and field observations and utilizing a variety of tools and sources to track emerging lifestyle shifts.

* Demonstrable experience conducting interviews, focus groups and other forms of consumer and professional engagement.

* Understanding emergent behaviors driven by new technologies and the ability to delineate and communicate a range of possible futures and make them impactful for multiple Nike functions - from Product and Design to Brand and Innovation.

* Knows where to find the Visionaries whose behavior and attitudes today can provide an indication of where societies are heading in the future.

* Well connected with strong networks in design, youth culture, and sport.
