The Mayor's Office of Community Mental Health oversees strategies to fill critical gaps in mental healthcare so every New Yorker, in every neighborhood, has the support they need. Building on the strong foundation of ThriveNYC, the Office partners with 13 city agencies and nearly 200 non-profit organizations to implement innovative programs that reach people with the highest need - those with serious mental illness, those affected by trauma, and those living in historically under-served neighborhoods. The Office also provides strategic policy guidance to activate every part of City government to promote mental health for all.

The Office is seeking a Senior Director, Children, Youth, and Families, who will lead the Office's programmatic oversight of a dynamic portfolio of several innovative programs implemented by City agencies that promote mental health for children, youth, and families. The Senior Director will lead the units programmatic work related to Mental Health Initiatives focused on youth. The Senior Director will report to the Deputy Director, Mental Health Initiatives and will have up to two direct reports.

The Senior Director will work closely with the executive team to set and execute overarching strategy for the office.

The Senior Director will have the following key responsibilities:

• Lead programmatic oversight to incubate innovative mental health programs for youth, including partnering with the Department of Education, the Department of Youth and Community Development, and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. This includes helping these agencies to launch or change how they deliver services, enhance existing services, and maximize the reach and impact of new approaches.

• The Senior Director will troubleshoot operational issues, determine meaningful ways to assess program effectives, and refine programmatic approaches as needed.

• Supervise team members, finding ways to enhance the effectiveness of their work and provide meaningful opportunities for professional development.

• Monitor emerging best practices and provide programmatic expertise in the development of novel strategies and initiatives.

• Collaborate with the Office's research and performance management teams to quantitatively and qualitatively assess program impact and inform external evaluations.

• Coordinate with the Office's communications and government engagement teams to inform how the Office publicly describes its programmatic work .
Preferred Skills

• An advanced degree in public health, mental health counseling or a relevant discipline required.
• Demonstrated interest in the fields of public health, mental health, housing, or youth development preferred. Alternatively, significant specific experience overseeing programmatic coordination of government programs also preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in an area related to the effective delivery of services required.
• Significant management experience required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and compelling presentations for an array of audiences, including senior-most staff, required.
• Strong operational thinking and skills - demonstrated ability to keep multiple "trains" running on time simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality execution
• Demonstrated cultural proficiency and experience working with communities of color in urban, underserved neighborhoods that bear a disproportionately high burden of illness and premature death.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and program management software required.
• Significant experience coordinating cross-team initiatives.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a highly collaborative team within the organization and build positive rapport with key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience in program planning, operations, and evaluation, and the use of management information systems, administrative datasets, procurement processes.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

1. Graduation from an approved medical school, a license to practice medicine in the State of New York, completion of an approved internship, and completion of an approved residency in psychiatry; and (3) years of progressively responsible administrative or executive experience in Psychiatry, in community mental health organization or in a psychiatric institution employing the integrated services of psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers; or

2. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in psychology, sociology, anthropology, public health, social work, education, or related field; and five (5) of full-time experience in an administrative or executive capacity in responsible charge of a social, psychiatric or health agency, or a major division thereof; or '

3. A satisfactory equivalent.
