Job Details

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Colgate University welcomes applications for a tenure-stream position in Anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in fall 2022. We seek an anthropologist with an active and innovative research agenda in medical anthropology who will expand the topical and regional strengths of the department. The research focus is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship addresses racism and/or other forms of inequality.

Colgate Anthropology sustains an undergraduate curriculum in cultural anthropology and archaeology. We welcome candidates who will teach our introductory course (Culture, Diversity and Inequality) and Medical Anthropology, and will develop course offerings in their topics of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to join the Colgate faculty in contributing to the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.

We invite applicants to submit a cover letter (1-2 pages), a CV, an article-length writing sample (not exceeding 12,000 words), and the names and email addresses of three references willing to write letters on your behalf. As Colgate strives to support diverse communities, the cover letter should describe your ability to work effectively with students across a wide range of identities, backgrounds and perspectives. Applications must be submitted through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19356. Our review of applications will begin October 1, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Completion of Ph.D. in Anthropology is required prior to, or shortly after, the date of hire. Colgate is a highly selective liberal arts university of 2900 students situated in central New York state. Colgate faculty are committed to excellence in both teaching and scholarship. Applicants with dual-career considerations can find postings of other employment opportunities at Colgate and at other institutions of higher education in upstate New York at www.upstatenyherc.org
