Responsibilities:
  • Provide expertise regarding the planning, development, implementation, and conduct of the National Health Care Surveys
  • Conduct health services research using data from the National Health Care Surveys
  • Write manuscripts and reports for publication by NCHS and professional journals
  • Work on statistical issues and performing special tabulations on issues of concern in processing electronic health records (EHR) data, including data quality and linkage issues
  • Respond to internal and external data requests for National Health Care Surveys data
  • Perform operational and statistical tasks critical, which includes developing editing and quality control procedures, conducting confidentiality reviews, performing complex statistical analyses, and ensuring that data file production procedures are technically rigorous and reflect up-to-date methodology
  • Prepare both public use files with associated documentation as well as restricted use files for the NCHS Research Data Center
  • Government Estimate of Skill Categories and Support Hours

Requirements:
  • Masters degree in the health or social sciences including public health, biostatistics, demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, or some other related field
  • Experience conducting research and writing programs to analyze data using statistical computing packages including Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and/or SUDAAN
  • Experience in designing and producing data files and documentation from national health surveys, planning and coordinating confidentiality reviews of these surveys
  • Conducting statistical analyses of complex national surveys or administrative data by applying the principles, theories and methodology of statistics and public health, and preparing reports for NCHS publications as well as peer-reviewed manuscripts
