Job Details

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Global Migration. The person will be offered a joint appointment in the Department of Anthropology and the Latin American and Latino Studies Program. The ideal candidate will specialize in the study of borders and migration with a focus on the Americas on topics including but not limited to: (i) migration and border governance, (ii) securitization and illicit economies, (iii) human mobility and human rights, (iv) transnational migrant justice movements, (v) indigeneity across borders, (vi) migration and health, (vii) migration and climate, and (viii) the transnational environmental politics of the border. The position is open to candidates with an outstanding research record and a demonstrated commitment to engaged scholarship, teaching a diverse student body, and public service. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active research, teaching, and service program.

Qualifications:

Candidates must receive a Ph.D. in Anthropology by August 16, 2022. We prefer a scholar who approaches migration and border studies from a transnational migration lens and is open to interdisciplinary work. Preference will be given to candidates with active research agendas in social anthropology who can complement the existing research of migration scholars on campus. UIC has scholars in multiple fields involved in cutting-edge research on migration studies including issues of security, development, deportation, migrant community organizing, migrant health, transnational migration and labor advocacy, and transnational environmental politics.
