Cultural Resource Specialist

We currently have an opportunity for a Cultural Resource Specialist to join our Transportation Team based in one of our Indiana or Kentucky offices (New Albany, Evansville or Lexington). Responsibilities include conducting investigations and research in compliance with Section 106 and NEPA to support federally funded INDOT, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local infrastructure projects.

Primary Responsibilities

• Performs archeological investigations and collects data on potential project sites.
• Potentially performs historic investigations and collects data on above-ground project areas.
• Analyzes field data and develops reports required for Section 106 documentation.
• Act as Principal Investigator in archaeology under Indiana DHPA, INDOT, Kentucky Heritage Council and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet requirements.
• Communicates and coordinates potential risks and solutions with consulting parties.
• Manages Phase I archaeological projects and collaborates with other staff as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• M.A./M.S. Degree in Archaeology, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Anthropology, Environmental Science or a related field is required.
• Qualified Professional and Principal Investigator in archaeology under Federal Indiana DHPA, INDOT, Kentucky Heritage Council and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet qualifications or meets requirements to become qualified.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting Section 106 and archaeological investigations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to contribute to client presentations and project meetings.
• Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws and standards related to discipline.
• Familiarity with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
• Knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and regulations pertaining to historic preservation.
• Experience with ArcGIS strongly desired
• Ability to rely on experience and independent judgment to perform tasks without supervision.
• Ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) for correspondence, engineering analysis and presentation development.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites as needed.
