The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

OPS Human Services Program Specialist

The incumbent in this position will serve in the Office of Health Equity and will work in the Compass program to screen DOH clients for social needs and connect them to appropriate resources. Duties include communicating with clients and community-based organizations, identifying community resources, entering client data, monitoring trends, and preparing data for reports. This position will require travel throughout Hillsborough County. (State reimbursement is 44.5 cents per mile for work-related travel, usimng your own vehicle.)

Your Specific Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Conduct surveys and assessments in clinical and community settings to measure social needs among DOH clients
  • Identify appropriate resources for clients
  • Connect clients to community resources and conduct appropriate follow up
  • Summarize results in report form
  • Analyze data using statistical software
  • Identify, collect, analyze, and present secondary and primary data as needed to support reports
  • Communicate with stakeholders as needed to support project needs
  • Assist in completing reports by editing for grammar and content
  • Follow tasks through from start to finish
  • Store completed documents in appropriate locations
  • Complete other related duties as assigned, including timesheets, mandatory training, and travel reimbursement


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Excellent verbal/written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to use office equipment (computer, copier, telephone, etc.)
  • Computer skills: thorough knowledge, skills, and ability to use Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Ability to produce work products in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Customer service skills, maintains client confidentiality and effective working relationships


Qualifications:

Minimum:
  • Experience conducting individual interviews, such as through interviewing clients, focus groups, in-person survey administration or another similar skill
  • Experience providing customer service
  • Valid Florida Driver's license or are you able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.


Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related field
  • Experience with public health, social work, sociology, or anthropology preferred
