Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Archaeologist for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential. This Archaeologist position will support the multi-discipline environmental group in Transportation. This candidate will serve as Principal Investigator and perform tasks ranging from project management, fieldwork, research, report writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping among other duties.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Leading fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping.
- Gathering data, research, and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports of investigations; compiling and organizing data collected by others.
- Preparing data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, agency coordination, Memoranda of Agreement/Understanding (MOAs/MOUs), and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents.
- Preparing archaeological reports including: Phase I Archaeology Survey Reports, Phase II Archaeological Testing Reports, Data Recovery Reports, and Assessment of Effects documents.
- Applying critical thinking/utilizing basic scientific methods/principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
- Assisting senior staff with business development for the Transportation Group.
- Working under the supervision of senior staff but capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.
- Conducting interdisciplinary collaboration with engineers and assorted environmental specialists.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
- 2 or more years of experience in working with Cultural Resource Management (CRM) and historic preservation, including ability to work on a wide range of projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload.
- 2 or more years of experience with Federal and State CRM requirements, processes, and guidance, including Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Park Service National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) bulletins, Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA).
- 2 or more years of experience with applying NRHP eligibility criteria and aspects of integrity to archaeological resources.
- 2 or more years of relevant experience including GIS mapping, artifact identification skills and experience with the identification of both prehistoric and historic material and advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic, ceramic, or faunal analysis; historical archaeology).
- 2 or more years of experience conducting archaeological fieldwork and research in the Southeastern United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
- Meets Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
- 2 or more years of experience in performing archaeological surveys and preparing reports for transportation projects administered by Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and/or the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
- High degree of professionalism, self-motivation, attention to detail, and desire to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral expertise.
