What We're Looking For
HNTB is currently seeking a full-time Archaeological Technician/Crew Chief with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, or a closely related field. The Archaeologist will be part of a growing team of cultural resource professionals and will apply a sound knowledge of the principles and theories of archaeology. The Archaeological Technician will be responsible for conducting fieldwork, including survey, excavation, and monitoring, supervision of temporary field technicians, and office/laboratory work. This position is available in the Atlanta, Georgia office
Primary Focus Will Include:
- Performs fieldwork, and conducts artifact analysis on Phase I, II, and/or III projects
- Assists Project Archaeologist/Principal Investigator to prepare cultural resources reports for public and private clients
- Maintains quality control for data collected in the field
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field with completion of an accredited field school
- Candidates should have strong experience with identifying and recording prehistoric and/or historic resources
- Should have excellent analytical skills, strong work ethic, and attention to detail, and excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
- Experience with a range of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and adverse field conditions
- Able to navigate using a compass and topographic maps or handheld GPS units
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Candidates based in Atlanta Metropolitan Area are preferred
- Technicians should have at least two years of field experience in the southern United States
- Candidates with specialty training and/or experience in GIS, GPS, Total Station mapping, geophysical studies, metal detection, geomorphology, and/or subsistence studies are encouraged to apply.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Under direction of more senior Scientist, follows clearly established data collection methods to assist in conducting research projects and surveys.
- Supports research efforts by gathering basic information from government agencies and clients, reviewing maps, assisting in field investigations among other supporting activities.
- Based on prescribed methodology, sets up test equipment at proposed construction site to obtain scientific data.
- Using established prescribed templates, prepares written reports, maps and statements of geologic, hydrologic, biologic and/or other scientific findings at project site as it relates to the design and construction of projects.
- Maintains administrative records, collections and files related to specific projects.
- Keeps current with trends, literature and new developments in ecology and environmental science.
- Assists team in the production of project deliverables.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
2 years related experience

- Maintains records, collections and files related to specific projects.
- Keeps current with trends, literature and new developments in ecology and environmental science.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology or related field
- 2 years related experience
- No experience (with Master's degree in Natural Sciences)
