Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University ( CSU ). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
Position is a Subject Matter Expert in natural and cultural resources as they relate to oversight of military compliance and readiness. Individual works at the Pentagon in Washington DC.
Required Job Qualifications
- Applicants must have a BS degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Archaeology, Anthropology or a closely related field plus 10 years of experience supporting Headquarter-level Natural and Cultural Resource programs.
- Must have 5 years of experience supporting Department of Defense programs, preparing briefings, and developing policy.
- Prior experience conducting complex studies and analyses and presenting divergent professional natural and/or cultural resource opinions is required.
- Specific experience with Air Force environmental policies, guidance and instructions.
The successful candidate must be a citizen of the United States. Must be able to pass the background for a Common Access Card ( CAC ) and other levels of clearance as required. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Specific experience with Air Force environmental policies, guidance and instructions preferred.
- Experience developing budget priorities and providing oversight of program execution is helpful.
- Prior experience writing fact sheets and briefings to Senate and House Armed Services Committee members, professional staff and military liaisons is a plus.
- Current Secret clearance or clearance within the last 10 years is beneficial.

Duty/Responsibility
Function as a subject matter expert ( SME ) supporting the Air Force Deputy Assistant Secretary ( DAS ) in the areas of natural and cultural resource management. Advises the DAS in policy, advocacy, and technical matters related to environmental conservation. Support policy review and development, provide expert written guidance and opinion on environmental matters as they relate to the military mission. Liaise with Air Force Deputy Assistant Secretary ( DAS ) for Installations and Environment, Air Force Civil Engineer Center, and Air Staff (A4C), OSD , other Military Departments, and other relevant organizations to represent Air Force interests and positions. Must be able to write technically and speak in public at elevated competency. Coordinate DAS initiated policies and guidance with Air Force leadership and counsel to ensure well-rounded policy development.
