We are expanding our team and seeking an entry-level Archaeological Technicians for seasonal, as needed/variable hour work based in the Santa Barbara, Ventura County area. The position will support cultural resources field efforts in the Central Coast and Southern California area.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively conduct archaeological field and lab work (or related office tasks) under the direction and supervision of a Dudek staff archaeologist
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or in process) in Archaeology or Anthropology or in a natural or social science in addition to volunteer or academic experience in a related field
- Current valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads
- Physical ability to carry equipment and supplies (up to 40 lbs.) and walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in or trainability for a wide range of archaeological field methods including pedestrian survey and shovel testing, testing/evaluation and data recovery excavations, and archaeological construction monitoring
- Previous archaeological survey experience or interest in learning in California, and experience recording a variety of sites and isolate types in the region
- Knowledge of, experience or trainability in using ESRI Collector
- Understanding and willingness to safely accommodate difficult weather and other environmental conditions and challenges
- Ability to operate field equipment, including GPS equipment, cameras, tablets, and compass
- Willingness to travel to a project location for several consecutive days
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
- Ability to provide and receive feedback
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
- Ability to resolve conflict through collaboration and communication
