Director, User Insights

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

SAP Design is made up of multi-disciplinary teams of UX Designers, Researchers, Writers, Content Strategists, Program Managers, and Engineers: we care deeply about the people who use our products. The SAP Design team plays an integral part in gathering insights about the attitudes, emotions, and behaviors of people who use our products to inspire and inform design. We collaborate closely with each other and with engineering and product management to create industry-leading products that deliver value for the people who use them, and for SAP's businesses.

The Director of User Insights is a fierce advocate for the people who use our products as well as the members of their teams. You're an expert at using qualitative and quantitative research methods to shape product development and influence overall strategy.

In this role, you'll take the time to understand not just the execution side of UX, but also the business aspects of the products we build. You'll collaborate with leaders of other UX, Engineering, and Product Management teams to create innovative experiences across all of SAP's products, leveraging your passion for brand, craft, and design quality.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Critical role on the design leadership team providing strategic vision and thought leadership on User Insights and Research.
  • Work with designers, product managers, engineers, and research managers to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Understand and incorporate complex technical and business requirements into research. Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Manage a team of User Experience Researchers.
  • Foster SAP's culture and principles within the group, while setting new standards in executional and operational excellence.
  • Ability to lead and present research finding at the executive level and provide strategy to scale recommendations.
  • Building strong relationships across the business to enable the Research team to be successful in carrying out its capabilities
  • Taking responsibility for ensuring the Research team carries out unbiased research in the pursuit of bringing the Voice of the Customer into the business
  • Promoting the design and carrying out of training for the Research team and other members SAP where appropriate


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of work experience in an applied research setting, and/or product research and development.
  • 5 years of experience managing UX research teams


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree or PhD in a related field.
  • 15 years of relevant work experience, including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices. Enterprise experience a plus.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, SPSS and remote usability testing tools, such as Keynote or UserZoom.
  • Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
  • Excellent working knowledge of statistics and the principles of experiment design.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and collaboration skills.
