WHAT YOU BRING
Required
- PhD or equivalent in a social science (economics, sociology, anthropology, social psychology) with 6+ years of experience researching and consulting.
- One of the following alternatives may be accepted: Master's degree and 10+ years in advanced analytics team with demonstrated mastery of an academic field.
- Demonstrated fluency in a diverse set of quantitative tool sets. These may include but are not limited to: traditional frequentist statistics (GLM and related families, experimental design, machine learning techniques (eg clustering, random forest, neural networks, etc.), Monte Carlo and other simulation techniques, forecasting, Bayesian statistical approaches etc.)
PREFERRED
- PhD or Masters with A-journal published research
- Experience consulting for impact in large organizations
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Experience in HR or People Analytics
- Familiarity with Python or R
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for a Principal Researcher to join our People Research and Data Science team
The skills you will bring to this role include deep domain expertise in economics, sociology, anthropology or other organizational or labor market related field. You will be expected to provide expertise in research design and architecture coupled with exceptionally strong consulting skills to connect research to organizational decisions that can lead to multi-million dollar impact. In particular, we need those skilled in proactively recognizing high value opportunities within a wide variety of different business processes, organizational designs and internal and external labor markets. Ability to flex across context and subject area will be a distinguishing characteristic of a successful candidate.
Experience within a People Analytics team or working on related organizational use cases is preferred but not necessary. We also have a strong preference for researchers with experience or orientation towards building scalable products as we strive to put the power of organizational science into the hands of the many decision makers across Nike.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
In this role you will be primarily responsible for architecting a diverse array of data science and statistical modeling projects across the company related to productivity, attrition, collaboration, networks, employee performance, culture and other organizational topics. You will be the lead consultant in designing projects which begin with the business impact and imperatives and then create actionable knowledge on how employee attributes, behaviors and actions influence these outcomes.
Within our team tasked with executing deep and sophisticated research projects on the cutting edge of both our data foundation and behavioral understanding, the intent for this principal researcher is to relieve you from data munging, reporting and data engineering tasks to focus on being the imaginative architect and delivery mechanism for a high volume of impactful projects and products. As the face of the People Research team you will be responsible for connecting with, exciting and delivering for organizational leaders. Your ability to take a lead role in coordinating these activities across the team including with dedicated data scientists, survey analysts and data engineers will be critical to your success.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
This role sits on the People Research and Data Science team and will ultimately report to the Director of People Research and Data Science. Internal to the PR&DS team, you will work closely with our senior and junior data scientists who will be responsible for the day-to-day production of data pipelines, statistical models and predictive algorithms. You will also work with other data scientists on a scrum basis depending on the needed time and skill set to deliver the project. In addition, you will work closing with individuals from the Business Insights & Solution team who is responsible for our scalable data warehouse, productionized data engineering and delivery products. You will also have the support of Nike's growing centralized data science center of excellence and community of practice.
