About the role

Our approach to stronger Cultural heritage management is focused on rebuilding stronger partnerships based on relationships of mutual understanding and respect with Traditional Owners, recognizing our presence on their land is temporary. Our teams work with Traditional Owners to understand their priorities and concerns, minimise our impacts on land and heritage, and recognize and celebrate Australia's Indigenous Cultures. To do this we engage with Traditional Owners, communities, and technical experts to identify and manage social, environmental, cultural, and human rights impacts throughout the life cycle of our projects, from exploration, to project development, to operation and closure.

We are looking for an Lead - Heritage Management to join the Heritage and Traditional Owner Partnerships, Iron Ore team. You will provide RTIO with technical cultural heritage advise and expertise to rebuild partnerships with Traditional Owners by shaping our systems, practices and approaches. You will lead a team of dedicated professionals focused on delivering cultural heritage research and community engagement, conservation strategies, curatorial management, building heritage awareness, and continually defining and improving the way we work. Reporting to the Manager Cultural Heritage, you will:

• Lead and provide strategic direction on RTIO cultural heritage management systems and ways of working
• Lead, monitor and improve the RTIO Site Cultural Heritage Management plans
• Lead and design methodologies that focus on co-design opportunities with Traditional Owner groups, and improve our in-field investigation and management methodologies
• Govern the cultural heritage management teams compliance to the RTIO cultural heritage management system, and Rio Tinto group procedures and standards
• Lead continuous improvement opportunities across the team
• Develop the RTIO heritage conservation strategy and support conservation agreement work
• Lead the team responsible for conservation and curation of stored cultural materials
• Build platforms to coach and train staff across RTIO on cultural heritage awareness including emersion experiences
• Develop and identify external conservation partnership opportunities to build and improve RTIOs cultural heritage management practices

What you'll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and others, creating and maintaining a safe workplace
• Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Heritage Management, History or equivalent with mining experience
• Technical expertise in Heritage Management, ability to manage and analyse heritage processes, systems, and procedures
• Experience working with Traditional Owners, Indigenous groups, and other industry stakeholders in a relationship management or community engagement capacity
• Broad background working within Heritage Management in mining & resources, consulting, not for profit, Aboriginal Corporations or contract management
• Demonstrated complex problem-solving abilities to deliver solutions across the business
• Demonstrated experience in crafting and delivering strategies, working through a networked organisation in achieving results.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ability to build networks with a wide range of people, ability to influence and build consensus.
• Experience leading and inspiring teams

Where you'll be working

Working Monday to Friday, you will be based at the Central Park building, located in Perth CBD with some travel across the Pilbara region expected.
