The Executive Director of Campus Inclusion and Community will provide leadership and vision to the Campus Inclusion and Community team in service to student-facing inclusion and justice efforts at the University. Campus Inclusion and Community is comprised of three departments, Multicultural Student Affairs, Student Enrichment Services and Social Justice Education. The Executive Director will be responsible for providing oversight and leadership to the directors and staff within these areas. The Executive Director of Campus Inclusion and Community reports directly to the Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff and serves on the Student Affairs Leadership Team. The role also servs as the University's liaison to the Posse program and chairs the Bias Incident Response Team. The Executive Director is responsible for the oversight of any renovation project in a CIC space and will work closely with the AVP/Chief of Staff on any capital construction projects connected to the work of CIC.

The Executive Director of CIC works closely with the following departments: Dean of Students, New Student Experiences, Student Affairs Assessment and Planning, Campus Life, Residential Services, Religious and Spiritual Life and Student Engagement. The Executive Director will also collaborate with academic partners to foster an inclusive and equitable campus climate; promote dialogue on campus, and advance inclusion and learning outside of the classroom through meaningful programmatic and educational offerings. The programs and services will be expected to align closely together as will the staff in collaborating with students, faculty, and staff in achieving departmental and unit goals that align with the Student Affairs vision and mission. The Executive Director works in partnership with AVP/Chief of Staff and Alumni Relations and Development to foster relationships with donors and alumni.

Please note: Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Effectively lead and manage Campus Inclusion and Community by:
  • Providing vision for the Campus Inclusion and Community team
  • Contributing to the vision, mission, and goals of the division to guide program development and service delivery for students.
  • Building a cohesive and interconnected team focuses on intersectional, affinity, and intercultural programming, events, and initiatives.
  • Creating and leveraging existing assessments and using data to inform decision making and overall direction for CIC.
  • Evaluating program performance with emphasis on continuous improvement; defining key learning outcomes.
  • Preparing and overseeing CIC budgets. Allocate resources in accordance with strategic and operational objectives.
  • Providing overall supervision of three directors and an administrative assistant in addition to the oversight of 10 assistant directors, three administrative assistants, 1 Americorp Vista and 7 graduate assistants across the unit.
  • Provides operational management of Campus Inclusion and Community by:
  • Directing, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of personnel, including support staff engaged in administering student services, departments and alumni engagement.
  • Recruiting, hiring, supervising, training, evaluating, and terminating departmental personnel.
  • Establishing operational policies and procedures and make any necessary modifications, based on analysis of operations, demographics, and other research information.
  • Supporting CIC directors in the day-to-day management of their various staff and student spaces.
  • Planning and administering budgets, maintaining financial records, and producing financial reports.
  • Participating in divisional fundraising activities.
  • Engaging with alumni and CIC donors.
  • Fosters strategic partnerships by:
  • Developing relationships with students, faculty and staff to foster positive dialogue on campus across academic and administrative divisions in service of marginalized student communities.
  • Leading the Bias Incident Response Team and manage the reporting system. Advocate and support students who have been recipients of a bias incident. Working closely with the AVP/Chief of Staff, provide direction to resolve conflict, complaints and relational issues impacting the campus community.
  • Serving as the University liaison to the Posse Scholars program.
  • Engages in divisional leadership and community relations by:
  • Working with the AVP/Chief of Staff to provide divisional leadership related to serving marginalized students and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for students.
  • Representing the division on various committees on the student experience and inclusion.
  • Promoting the university by participating in community, state, and national events or meetings. Represent Northwestern at community and campus events and in meetings with other institution personnel.
  • Serving on the Student Affairs Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education administration or related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience of current theory and practice in student affairs as it pertains to student development and diversity, equity, and inclusion frameworks and practices.
  • Comprehensive skills to advocate for inclusivity of marginalized student populations.
  • Knowledge and skill to apply contemporary best practices in student affairs, student learning outside of the classroom, and advocacy.
  • Knowledge and successful implementation of strategic plans and assessments.
  • Proven comprehensive skills to work collegially and collaboratively across campus with academic and administrative areas to build relationship and achieve goals.
  • Familiarity with fundraising, donor relations and alumni engagement.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
