Role(s) & Responsibilities
The Linguist interprets and translates local languages and dialects to English language as well as provides expertise on societal and cultural dynamics.
Candidates should have demonstrated experience:
- Providing expert understanding and interpretation of local socio-political, religious, and ethnic diversity and customs
- Translating, interpreting, and analyzing oral and written material in local language (to include reports, raw data, briefings, and conversations) and be capable of providing written and oral translations in English
- Providing assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis while being capable to:
(1) comprehending both the source language and English as spoken and written
(2) speaking both of these languages
(3) choosing an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source language
(4) having familiarity with the cultural context of both languages
(5) having knowledge of terminology in specialized fields
(6) researching in source languages and writing a comprehensive assessment in English
Required Qualifications:
Degree in language, culture, history, sociology, anthropology or related field
Journeyman Level - BA/BS +3-10 yrs. experience; MA/MS + 1-8 yrs. experience; 7-14 yrs. experience without degree
Senior Level - MA/MS and 10+ yrs. experience; BA/BS and 12+ yrs. experience; 14+ yrs. experience without degree
SME Level - MA/MS and 15+ yrs. experience. Has exceptional, highly unique expertise. Recognized industry leader / expert
Experience translating, interpreting, and analyzing oral and written materials from the local language into English
Being fluent in both the local language and English
Expertise in culture of the region
Experience performing duties outlined within the Role(s) & Responsibilities specifications
Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance
