Job Description

About the Department: US Consumer Insights is currently undergoing a ground-breaking journey to change how McDonald's uses evidencebased data to drive business decisions and create marketing plans. We provide the consumer insights that drive annual and longer-term strategic plans in partnership with other functions such as Marketing, Menu Innovation, Supply Chain, Digital, Development, Operations, and Business Insights to help drive key US central initiatives. About the Opportunity: As a member of the Foundational Insights Team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the success and growth of McDonald's. Beyond providing invaluable consumer insights to drive the business, you will also be able to recommend actions to be taken and influence decisions across the business. A successful person in this position will not only be the voice of the consumer but will also have a seat at the table and see the world from a marketing and business perspective. Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify consumer-driven opportunities to drive McDonald's growth
  • Disseminate learning to ensure internal alignment and understanding of consumer needs
  • Develop, manage and execute consumer insights plan to understand trends, consumer attitudes and behaviors, key functional and emotional requirements, consumption occasions, and translate those findings into insights to be used as foundations to drive future growth
  • Identify and manage outside vendors and third parties to maximize learning and value from projects. This entails actively engaging and maximizing partner intellectual horsepower, providing feedback for continual improved performance, and negotiating of contracts. Required Competencies:
  • Shown experience within the design, execution and analysis of an extremely wide range of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including, but not limited to: New Product Development, Consumer Segmentation, Consumer Journey Mapping, Brand Target Identification and Positioning, Brand Health Tracking, and Advertising Assessment
  • Strong understanding of behavioral science standard methodologies
  • Self-starter with high level of intellectual curiosity
  • Analytical and enthusiastic problem-solving demeanor
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the willing ability to balance exciting priorities
  • Ability to operate independently and effectively in a team-based environment
  • Effective presenter and doer


  • MBA (preferred), Marketing Research or related field (e.g. Psychology, Anthropology, Behavioral/Cognitive Science, Statistics) or Strategy.
  • Experience in complex, matrix organizations; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and the informal network.
  • Franchisee level relationship building, and multi-cultural research experience preferred
  • Experience in sophisticated, matrix organizations; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and the informal network.
  • Ability to effectively deal with levels of ambiguity-can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, comfortably handles risk and uncertainty.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective formal presentation and facilitation skills in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, using resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent follow through, attention to detail, and time leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization.
