JOB BRIEF

The RESOLVE Network is a global consortium of researchers, research organizations, policymakers, and practitioners committed to empirically driven, locally defined research on the drivers of violent extremism and sources of community resilience. International stakeholders established RESOLVE to generate, facilitate, aggregate, and synthesize methodologically sound, locally informed research on the dynamics of violent extremism. RESOLVE is a resource hub for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in need of nuanced, multidisciplinary, empirical approaches to analyze the drivers of violent extremism and sources of community resilience. RESOLVEs work provides key insights on violent extremism by establishing connections and asking critical questions to enhance and inform P/CVE research, policy, and practice.

The RESOLVE Network Secretariat manages RESOLVEs suite of research projects, convening efforts, and Network activities. The Secretariat is housed at the U.S. Institute of Peace, building upon the Institutes decades-long legacy of deep engagement in conflict-affected societies.

As a part of the RESOLVE Network Secretariat Team at the U.S. Institute of Peace, this position will provide vital support to the day-to-day activities of the RESOLVE Network as well as specific research and training initiatives.

Pay: $15.00-$15.75/hour

Work schedule: 20 Hours/Week Expected

Start Date: June 2021

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide research and support for the RESOLVE Network as part of the Violent Extremism Program at USIPs Center for Applied Conflict Transformation, specifically to:

Lead the production of the monthly What Were Reading digests, monthly external newsletters, and quarterly newslettersincluding the content curation, layout, and dissemination.
Provide communications support to the RESOLVE Secretariat, including updates to the RESOLVE website and social media posts.
Assist with event planning and execution to ensure the successful advancement of the RESOLVE Network mission and discrete projects.
Other research in thematic areas related to violent extremism, as needed to support RESOLVE activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a full-time B.A/B.S student studying international relations, international peace and conflict resolution, political science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, or another relevant social science subject.
Excellent research and writing skills.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Demonstrated interest in the field of violent extremism and experience in communications.
Ability to translate complex themes, ideas, or data into compelling, accessible, and informative narratives and visuals. Experience with InDesign preferred. USIP's Research Assistant program is administered through the Consortium of Universities in the Washington Metropolitan area. Any full-time university student in the Washington area is eligible for these openings.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications andexperience.
