TRC Advanced Energy (TRC), a nationally known consultancy, is seeking a research analyst to contribute to a wide range of research and analysis projects that support clean energy programs and policies.

As a Research Analyst, you will work side by side with more experienced consulting staff to learn about the clean energy industry, learn new analytic skills, engage in sophisticated research projects, and participate in the evolution of our business. Although much of your work will be qualitative in nature, you may be asked to help support all aspects of mixed-methods studies. No project is the same, and you'll get exposure to lots of different types of work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

You will be joining our team at an exciting time, as we combine our long history supporting energy efficiency and demand response with teams focused on emerging tech, distributed energy resources, microgrids, storage, electrification, and resiliency. We are looking for a candidate who is excited to help chart this future with us.

The ideal candidate will be assertive, personable, and a self-starter, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks across multiple teams. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively and coordinate with internal technical team members and external customers. This position is located in Seattle, Washington. Remote working is currently in effect.

JOB DUTIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Design and conduct in-depth interviews or observational field research
Code, analyze, and interpret qualitative data (content/thematic analysis)
Design and implement surveys
Manage field data collection
Clean, analyze, and interpret survey quantitative data
Research policy and program designs
Complete literature reviews
Communicate research results via written reports and graphics
Synthesize information across multiple data sources
Translate results into actionable recommendations

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirements

Education:

Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) with a focus on Evaluation, Environmental Analysis, Sociology, Public Policy, Psychology, Anthropology, Education, Social work, or other relevant degrees. Applicable clean energy and/or utility experience may substitute for applied research experience or an advanced degree.

Experience:

1-2 years of experience conducting applied research

Skills:

Thorough understanding of the fundamentals of research methods and design
Experience conducting in-depth interviews and analyzing results with qualitative data analysis software required.

Nice to Have:

Experience with utilities or the clean energy sector
Tangible experience in consulting, program evaluation, and/or energy efficiency
Excellent writing and presentation skills.
Research experience with methods including surveys, data analysis, focus groups, field observations, ethnographic and anthropological research, usability testing, online qualitative research, content analysis, and other structured research methods.
