Brown University’s Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology is accepting applications for a full-time, grant-funded Collection Assistant position. The Collection Assistant will provide direct care of the museum’s archaeological and ethnographic collections during a phased relocation to a new facility. Collection Assistants will join a project team consisting of a registrar, curators, collection assistants, photographer, conservator, and contracted art handlers to inventory, document, rehouse, and move the collection.

This is a limited-term, full-time position with benefits, funded through the end of 2022 with a possibility of extension.  


The Museum seeks candidates able to start immediately. Applications must be submitted through Brown University’s online hiring system by May 20, 2021 and must include a current resume, cover letter, and the names of three professional references.


The Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology is Brown University’s teaching museum. A resource across the university, we inspire creative and critical thinking about culture by fostering interdisciplinary understanding of the material world. We provide opportunities for faculty and students to work with collections and the public, teaching through objects and programs in classrooms, in our on-campus gallery in Manning Hall, and at the Collections Research Center in Bristol, RI.The Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology's holds more than one million ethnographic objects, archaeological specimens, and images from all parts of the world, with particular strengths in the Americas, Africa, and Southeast Asia. These collections include nearly 60,000 objects collected by Rudolf F. Haffenreffer before his death in 1954 and a similar number obtained through fieldwork, donations, and strategic acquisitions since the Museum became part of Brown University in 1955, as well as more than 800,000 objects from archaeological research in Alaska.The museum offers exhibits, public lectures, performances, symposia, festivals, and a broad range of programs and events for all ages. The Museum's Collections and Research Center and offices are located in Bristol, RI. The Museum exhibitions are located at Manning Hall on the Brown University campus in Providence, RI.
