Responsible for the creation of a design research strategies and leadership of design research across multiple projects.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
- Lead, oversee and recommend both short- and long-term research activities, creating a research plan
- Provide hands-on leadership of user research and discovery to understand decision-making methods and work practices in industrial services, such as Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Oil & Gas and Aviation.
- Partner with technology teams, product teams and key partners to guide the definition and development of new digital solutions by synthesizing and communicating customer and user journeys, story maps, personas, and design insights.
- Leads the creation and communication of research artifacts, findings, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders
- Lead planning of research topics and usability tests and contribute to the analysis and synthesis of research findings
- Lead management of usage analytics and Voice of the Customer solutions, mining usage data, and communicating findings to stakeholders
- Set standards for research methodologies and processes
- Advocate for user research and help champion adoption of design and research methodologies with senior levels
- Oversee and guide the effective documentation of research and testing including notes, photos, video and resulting analysis
- Directly contribute to strategic decision-making for UX and influence senior leaders
- Lead evaluation and adoption of current and emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends
- Coach and consult throughout the organization on Agile / Lean UX methodologies
- Work with cross functional teams and cross-business teams and be responsible for driving broad-reaching solutions across the function / business.
- Influences change through others and set a vision for future change; evangelize the practice of research and design process with GE business leaders.
- Share technical, procedural, and business knowledge with others.
- Leverage your domain expertise; you are expected to further the knowledge and improve productivity of your colleagues with activities such as creating learning content, giving presentations, and supporting a continuous learning culture.
Job Characteristics:
Technical Expertise:
- Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research activities such as ethnographic studies and usability studies
- Experience leading the creation and communication of research artifacts, findings, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders
- Experience planning research topics and usability tests
- Experience leading management of usage analytics and Voice of the Customer solutions, mining usage data, and communicating findings to stakeholders
- High attention to detail; extremely strong written and verbal communication skills
- Deep knowledge of research tools such as Morae Observer, Camtasia, Axure, InVision, and Omniture
- Mastery of Agile/Lean UX methodologies
Business Acumen:
- Extensive knowledge of business products, key processes, suppliers, customers and market/competitors.
- Experience of researching in, and designing for, Industrial applications.
- Understands and stays up to date on the industry's technology landscape; Ability to map industry technology trends to internal vision.
- Demonstrated understanding key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important; strongly advocates for user experience design methodologies with other groups
Leadership:
- Effective communicator and natural influencer
- Demonstrates the ability to extract and communicate how groups are thinking and feeling
- Ability to express technology options to collaborators on cross functional teams. Able to clearly articulate the rationale and benefit of design technology choices.
- Experience translating user-centered design requirements into technical implementations for projects, measuring deliverables and balancing competing objectives.
- Ability to clearly articulate technology options to collaborators on cross functional teUnderstands the value of a rigorous and transparent decision-making process.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and cross-business teams to assist in driving broad-reaching solutions across the function / business.
- Ability to inspire and infuence change; history of partnership with other UX disciplines
- Ability to contribute to constructive conversations utilizing active listening and validating the information needs of stakeholders and users.
- Demonstrated deep passion for learning and courage to push the boundaries of one's own thinking.
- Ability to shapes and guide design process (research, design, build, and measurement)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
- 10 years experience in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree is preferred.
- Prior experience in driving digital transformation for large global organizations is strong positive.
