Job Details

The University of Virginia’s Department of Anthropology invites applications for a three-year general faculty (non-tenure-track) position to teach courses that serve our major, particularly our growing concentration in Medical Anthropology, Ethics, and Care.  The successful applicant will be appointed at the assistant professor level, for three-years with possibility of renewal. 

The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship. They should have a commitment to teaching anthropology to diverse undergraduate audiences, a broad knowledge of our discipline with specific research interests in Medical Anthropology, interest in mentoring undergraduates, and the ability to integrate ethnographic material with anthropological theory.  Region of specialization is open. Responsibilities of the position include teaching introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in both general Anthropology and Medical Anthropology (with a 3/3 load). 

Preferred: Qualified candidates who can teach courses in the history and theory of Anthropology, who have experience mentoring students involved in research, internships, and/or service projects, and whose research and teaching interests would contribute to UVa’s Race, Justice and Equity Initiatives designed to broaden the pedagogical and research activities of the University at this pivotal moment in U.S. history.

The appointment start date is August 25, 2021. Candidates should hold a PhD by time of appointment.
