Visiting Assistant Professor of International Relations and Environmental Studies

Job No: 496658

Position Type: full-time

Location: Lewisburg, PA

Categories: Environmental Studies, International Relations

The Department of International Relations and the Department of Environmental Studies & Sciences at Bucknell University invite applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the 2021-2022 academic year. We seek a teacher-scholar with a Ph.D. degree in International Relations, Environmental Studies, Anthropology, Human Geography, International Political Economy, Sociology, or other relevant disciplines by August 2021. Candidates in the final stages of completing their degree requirements will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in research and undergraduate teaching to a diverse student body. The successful candidate will teach a total of six courses over two semesters. The required modality of teaching will follow university policy, which is yet to be determined for the 2021-2022 academic year.

We seek a candidate whose teaching and research interests are in human security, race, inequality, and the environment. Possible focal areas include but are not limited to: global public health; disaster management; conservation and development; environmental racism; climate justice; food security; and humanitarian assistance and relief. Special consideration will be given to candidates in fields of critical social inquiry who center the study of race and ethnicity in their research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two courses that contribute to the International Relations major—Human Security and Globalization along with two courses that contribute to the Environmental Studies major—Identity, Inequality, and the Environment and Environmental Ethnography. Other course offerings associated with the position could include electives in the candidate's areas of specialization.

We seek a teacher-scholar who has a demonstrated commitment to diversity and high impact educational practices (writing intensive courses, interdisciplinary courses, global learning, etc.) that would appeal to a broad university audience. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. We invite candidates to explain how issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are brought into their teaching, scholarship, and/or service in their application materials. Bucknell University, an Equal Opportunity Employer, believes that students learn best in a diverse, inclusive community and is therefore committed to academic excellence through diversity in its faculty, staff, and students.

Application materials should include a cover letter, a CV, and the names and contact information for three referees. Finalists for the position will be asked to submit a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness as available, a statement describing any experience, training, or engagement with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and three confidential letters of reference. Review of applications will begin on March 20, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. All materials must be submitted through Bucknell's career site (careers.bucknell.edu).
