Position Summary The Social Science Division at Green River College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biological Anthropology beginning September 2021. The Anthropology Department seeks an innovative instructor of Biological Anthropology to teach freshman and sophomore courses including but not limited to: Survey of Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, and Forensics. We seek an instructor who embraces the community college mission, is passionate about teaching, advising, and empowering students, and is committed to engaging in activities within the Social Science Division and the College. About The College: The student body at Green River College is made up of approximately 34% Academic Transfer students, 30% Professional-Technical, 11% Adult Basic Education, 25% Continuing & Community Education. In addition, there are five bachelor of applied science four year degrees offered.  Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw.  Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English as a second language, and Continuing Education students. Position Responsibilities  


Teach three Anthropology classes per quarter (including but not limited to: Survey of Anthropology and Biological Anthropology) as part of the College’s academic transfer program.  Design and develop curriculum for new and existing Biological Anthropology courses Advise students, serve on committees, and perform other duties as outlined in the negotiated collective bargaining agreement. Participate in College and Division professional activities.  Maintain strong collegial and collaborative relationships within the Anthropology Department (tenure track and adjunct faculty), the Social Science Division, and the broader Green River College campus community.  




Master’s Degree in Anthropology with an emphasis on Biological Anthropology  Successful experience teaching college-level classes in Anthropology, including lower division classes Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as those with disabilities or other minority statuses   PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Significant graduate-level coursework in Anthropology beyond the Master's Degree exemplified by a PhD or ABD status  Expertise in Biological Anthropology including: Paleoanthropology, Primatology, Medical Anthropology, Forensics or other aspects of Biological Anthropology Experience (part-time or full-time) successfully teaching community college Anthropology survey courses as the instructor of record Demonstrated experience successfully advancing the educational success of underrepresented and underserved communities   DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR CONSIDERATION Cover letter that clearly addresses each of the minimum qualifications and, as relevant, the preferred qualifications.  Curriculum Vitae.  Copies of transcripts documenting all undergraduate and graduate degrees and all relevant coursework (originals required upon hire).
