The Department of Anthropology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a non-tenure earning assistant professor position to begin August 15, 2021. The successful applicant must hold a PhD degree in anthropology. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate instruction and mentoring in classroom and field school settings is required. Topical specializations required for the position include SE US archaeology and museum studies. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the department’s archaeology laboratory and artifact collections, including inventorying and cataloging objects. Familiarity with applicable regulations, including NAGPRA, is essential.

 

The UAB Department of Anthropology offers undergraduate minor, major, and MA degree programs. The undergraduate program and course offerings span the traditional four-fields of anthropology. At the graduate level, the program offers the MA degree in the Anthropology of Peace and Human Rights and is expanding involvement in a new interdisciplinary MA program in Cultural Heritage Studies (CHS). The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and should have research and teaching experience that supports the CHS program.
