Many of the AAA’s resources for learning about career possibilities come to us courtesy of the National Association for the Practice of Anthropology (NAPA), the AAA section dedicated to practicing and applied anthropology.
NAPA members have published several collections of personal reflections on their careers:
- Careers in 21st Century Applied Anthropology: Perspectives from Academics and Practitioners
(NAPA Bulletin 29 [2008]) - Making History at the Frontier: Women Creating Careers as Practicing Anthropologists
(NAPA Bulletin 26 [2006])
NAPA also provides a long-standing mentoring program in which established professionals help junior colleagues, students, and career changers to figure out their next step. Attendees at the AAA Annual Meeting are invited to meet anthropologists from a wide range of contexts of practice at the NAPA / AAA Careers Expo.
Depending on your professional goals, you may also be interested in the mentoring opportunities offered by other AAA sections.
