The Department of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-stream Assistant Professor position in Anthropological Archaeology with a regional focus in Mesoamerica to begin fall 2020, pending budgetary approval. Applicant must have a PhD in Anthropology or a related field at the time of appointment. An active research program is essential, and candidates must be able to integrate graduate and/or undergraduate students in field and/or lab research. Successful candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research and publication.
Thematic and methodological areas of expertise are open, but should complement existing strengths in a program that stresses broadly comparative approaches in the anthropological archaeology of complex societies and the foundations of complexity. We particularly seek candidates who value collaborative, mutually respectful relations with international colleagues. Teaching responsibilities will include two courses in the fall term and two courses in the spring term, at undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates also will advise and mentor graduate students, contribute to departmental and wider university administration, and participate in the intellectual life of the department.
