The Department of Anthropology at Washington State University in Pullman invites applications for two full-time, permanent tenure-track positions as Assistant Professor in Anthropological Archaeology beginning August 16, 2020. The Department of Anthropology seeks applicants who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service. We seek exceptional scholars who have innovative approaches to the archaeological sciences, which can include—but are not limited to—archaeometry, bioarchaeology, paleobotany, geoarchaeology, earth or environmental sciences, geochemistry, lithic analyses, molecular research, remote sensing methods or quantitative/spatial analysis. The area of geographic specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in applicants with research programs based in the Americas. The WSU Archaeology program has strengths in many aspects of archaeological method and theory, with a particular emphasis on materials analyses. We are seeking faculty members who can capitalize on the collaborative and interdisciplinary opportunities offered by the College of Arts and Sciences at WSU.
Required qualifications for applicants include:
Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field earned by July 1, 2020
demonstrated specialization in archaeological science
active program of field and/or laboratory research, with the ability to integrate and provide opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students
ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Anthropological Archaeology and Anthropology
Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds
Preferred qualifications for applicants include:
strong record of high impact publications
demonstrated past success and future potential for securing extramural funding
evidence of teaching excellence
capacity to complement and extend existing faculty strengths
a research agenda that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries
